Raspberry leaf is a toning astringent herb that has been traditionally used as an antispasmodic and women’s reproductive system tonic.
It is used particularly in the last trimester of pregnancy to facilitate childbirth and may also help ease labour pains. Raspberry leaf has been traditionally used in Western herbalism for the relief of diarrhoea. Blooms Raspberry Leaf 2000 may also help with the symptoms of diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting and may also assist in the management of dysmenorrhoea.
Raspberry leaf tea can be useful for ailments that cause intestinal inflammation and discomfort, such as diarrhoea. The tannins reduce swelling by constricting minute blood vessels called capillaries; this prevents oozing or leaking of fluids in the intestines. The herbs astringent quality has inspired other uses as well such as using the raspberry leaf tea as a mouthwash and gargle to soothe canker sores and sore throats. Raspberry may cause slight loosening of stools and nausea.
Directions: Combine 1 cup of boiling water with 2g of the dried herb, infuse for 10-15 minutes. Take as needed, however, 2 -3 cups are commonly taken during pregnancy.
